Adoption Saves Lives: Nationally, almost 50% of all cats and dogs entering shelters are euthanized. Our adoption rates are very close to 94%. Save a life with love - Adopt! Free vs. WAHS: Think getting a "free" pet is cheaper? For a cat, your cost for shots and spaying or neutering would be $175 to $200. For a dog, it would be $195 to $235, depending on the age of the animal. If old enough, an animal adopted from WAHS will be spayed or neutered before they go to their new home. A deposit of $100 is required for animals that are not old enough to have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The deposit will be refunded after the animal has been returned for surgery. Cost of Care: If you are a first-time cat owner, you will need some basic equipment – a carrier, bowls, litter box and a scoop. |
To help you determine the first year cost of owning a cat, we have
prepared a list of basic equipment costs and an estimate of food and
litter costs. list as PDF The Application: If you are interested in adopting an animal, the first step in the process is to fill out an application form. You must be at least 21 years old and have your landlord's permission to have a pet. Processing of the application takes at least three or four working days.
